Victoria needs change

The city is off track

For too long, Victoria residents and small businesses have faced:

  • Rising property taxes and utility bills

  • Closed-door decisions and undisclosed contracts

  • Downtown disorder and public safety concerns

  • Projects pushed through without proper consultation

  • Financial commitments that impact taxpayers for decades

Taxpayers are stretched. Small businesses are struggling. Residents feel unheard.

Victoria can and must do better.

Why Lyall is running

A sixth-generation Victorian.

A taxpayer.

A small business owner.

Lyall Atkinson was born and raised in Victoria. He lives here. He pays property taxes here. He runs a small business here.

He’s watched costs rise dramatically while accountability has declined.

He’s seen decisions made without proper transparency, consultation, or long-term planning.

Lyall isn’t a career politician.

He’s a resident who stepped forward because change is required.

He ran before. He learned. He’s ready.

What needs to change

1. Financial accountability

  • Stop shifting funds between accounts to cover poor planning

  • Disclose contracts and nonprofit funding agreements

  • Ensure major capital projects are financially responsible

  • Protect taxpayers from 20+ year financial burdens without proper consultation

Victoria must live within its means — just like families and businesses do.

2. Transparency & Fair Process

  • Clear public reporting on contracts and expenditures

  • Proper consultation with neighbourhoods before major changes

  • Fair treatment of commercial property owners, landlords, and renters

  • Respect for community associations and residents

City Hall should serve taxpayers — not operate around them.

3. Downtown Recovery & Public Safety

  • Measurable results for downtown clean-up

  • Smarter partnerships with provincial and federal agencies

  • Balance compassion with accountability

  • Support for local businesses affected by disorder

Victoria can be both caring and responsible.

How Lyall will make change happen

Change doesn’t happen by complaining.
It happens by showing up, asking questions, and demanding answers.

Lyall commits to:

  • Voting against wasteful spending

  • Pushing for full financial disclosure

  • Advocating for residents at every council meeting

  • Asking the questions others won’t ask

  • Putting taxpayers first — every time

One strong voice can start a shift.
A council willing to challenge the status quo can reset the direction of this city.

Community roots

Victoria isn’t just a place on a map.

It’s families.
It’s small businesses.
It’s neighbourhoods that deserve respect.

Lyall believes:

  • Leadership means listening

  • Government must earn trust

  • Taxpayers deserve value for money

  • Local voices matter

He’s not running for power.
He’s running for accountability

Democracy requires fairness

In the last election, new candidates were largely excluded from meaningful media coverage and debates, while former council members dominated airtime.

Victoria voters deserve equal access to all candidates — not just the well-known ones.

Lyall supports fair debate standards and balanced election coverage so residents can make informed decisions.

October 17, 2026

Victoria decides.

If you believe:

✔ Taxes must be controlled
✔ Spending must be transparent
✔ Residents must be consulted
✔ Downtown must be restored

Then it’s time to vote for change.
